Severe weather in Southern Norway: Several dozen roads are flooded

Southern Norway is experiencing severe weather with strong winds and widespread flooding affecting roads and emergency rescue operations.

Southern Norway has been hit by severe weather conditions, with exceptionally strong winds reaching over 20 meters per second reported in several locations, including Sarpsborg where winds peaked at 22.8 meters per second. Meteorologist Eldbjørg Moxnes from the Meteorological Institute indicated that this level of wind is unusually high for the region, contributing to numerous challenges in the area.

The situation remains critical as emergency services are responding to incidents caused by the severe weather, including a report from police of a man trapped in a car submerged in water in Indre Østfold. The police confirmed that the individual was stuck with water up to his waist, necessitating the dispatch of surface divers and rescue helicopters to the scene to facilitate a potential rescue.

Moreover, the aftermath of the heavy rains has led to widespread flooding across the region, causing numerous roads to be closed and creating hazardous conditions for residents. Emil Øien from the region reported significant tree falls and extensive water damage, highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by local authorities and emergency responders as they attempt to manage the repercussions of the storm and ensure public safety.
