China, Ferraris remove the wings: the Macarena disappoints. The aerodynamic novelty doesn't take off

Ferrari has temporarily abandoned its innovative rear wing, named 'Macarena', during the Chinese GP weekend due to disappointing results and concerns about stability.

Ferrari's attempt to implement the innovative rear wing, known as the 'Macarena', during the Chinese Grand Prix has not yielded the expected results, prompting the team to revert to their traditional wing design. The Macarena, designed to enhance speed by opening up to 270°, was tested during the weekend's practice sessions but led to instability issues, affecting drivers' performances. Notably, Lewis Hamilton experienced an unusual spin, which was possibly linked to the wing's impact on the car's balance.

During the initial free practice sessions, Ferrari's performance was notably lacking when compared to the Mercedes team, highlighting a gap in competitive speed. Charles Leclerc struggled to complete a strong lap time, placing Ferrari significantly behind Mercedes, with Leclerc qualifying fifth, eight-tenths behind and Hamilton down at sixth, over 1.3 seconds slower. The team faced challenges with the Macarena wing, which ultimately affected their qualifying positions.

As the mini qualifying round approached, Ferrari regained some stability but still found themselves distant from the Mercedes in terms of speed and performance. This setback raises questions about the effectiveness of the new aerodynamics, indicating that further fine-tuning is needed before the wing can be successfully integrated into their strategy for future races.
