Ferrari: now strange things are heard
Ferrari plans to introduce a new rear wing design called the 'Macarena' in the upcoming F1 race in Shanghai as it seeks to challenge Mercedes' dominance.
The Formula 1 season, marked by significant rule changes, continues this weekend with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Following a dominant double win by Mercedes in the opening race in Australia, Ferrari is reportedly looking to stir things up for the German team. According to media reports, Ferrari aims to implement an innovative rear wing design, dubbed the 'Macarena', during the Shanghai race, which drew considerable attention in pre-season tests.
The 'Macarena' wing is designed to operate differently on straightaways, rotating over 180 degrees around its axis to reduce drag and increase straight-line speed. This innovation, if successful, could also improve the efficiency of the car’s electric battery by conserving energy. Ferrari is taking a strategic approach by bringing three different versions of the rear wing to Shanghai, indicating that they are keen on finding the most effective solution to compete with Mercedes.
However, there is a contingency plan in place; if the wing does not perform as expected, Ferrari may opt not to use it during the race. The team's experiments reflect a broader competitive spirit within F1 as teams adapt to new regulations and seek innovative solutions to enhance performance, making the upcoming race a pivotal moment for Ferrari’s ambitions this season.
