For the past five days, residents of São José do Barroso, a rural area in Iraí de Minas, Brazil, have been on alert due to a jaguar that has been lurking in the vicinity. Surveillance cameras in the region have captured various instances of the animal, which has sadly already killed several chickens and at least one dog. According to Bruno Magalhães, the local Secretary of the Environment, the authorities became aware of the situation through social media posts, prompting immediate action from the local government and the Military Police of the Environment (PMMA).

The PMMA highlighted the challenges they face in capturing the jaguar, particularly due to its nocturnal habits which complicate surveillance and capture efforts. They also pointed out that without proper traps available, capturing the animal has become increasingly difficult. In light of these circumstances, authorities are considering the best course of action, suggesting that if the area is within the jaguar's natural habitat, it might be advisable to wait for it to leave on its own rather than forcibly relocating it.
