Canada Pavilion at Expo returns site in Yumeshima, government representative says 'It was like a dream'

The Canadian pavilion at Expo in Yumeshima, Osaka, has returned its site to the Japan International Exhibition Association following its dismantling five months after the event's closure.

Five months after the closing of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, the Canadian pavilion located in Yumeshima has completed its dismantling and returned the land to the Japan International Exhibition Association. This event was marked by a ceremony where Canadian representatives expressed their joy about the memories created in the pavilion, with government representative Laurie Peters reflecting nostalgically on the experience while emphasizing the deepening ties between Canada and Japan enhanced through the Expo.

The pavilion's design was notable, resembling a collection of shattered ice, featuring exhibits that utilized augmented reality (AR) experiences to explore ice-like objects through tablets. As part of the Expo experience, the Canadian pavilion aimed to showcase Canadian culture and innovation, leaving a lasting impression on visitors and participants alike.

With the return of this site, which is part of a broader set of 42 pavilions designated as “Type A” that countries could self-design, only 15 have been returned to date. The completion of these returns signals a transition for the site as it moves forward post-expo, while also reflecting on the collaborative spirit fostered between participating nations during the event.
