Company CEO Swings Baseball Bat at Employees…Ministry of Employment Initiates Special Inspection
A CEO of a renewable energy company in Seoul is facing a special inspection from the Ministry of Employment and Labor after reports revealed that he threatened employees with a baseball bat and made abusive remarks.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor in South Korea has launched a special inspection into a renewable energy company located in Seoul, where it was reported that the company's CEO had threatened employees with a baseball bat and engaged in verbal abuse. The Ministry confirmed that the CEO's troubling behavior was highlighted in media reports, prompting the immediate action. Reports indicate the CEO not only wielded a bat but also made threats to harm employees, indicating a severe violation of workplace safety and labor laws.
In response to the serious allegations, the Ministry is forming a joint inspection team from the Seoul Employment and Labor Office and the Gwanak District Labor Office to investigate both the allegations of violence and any breaches of labor laws such as the prohibition of workplace harassment. The team will focus on whether the CEO violated labor standards, particularly regarding physical abuse and workplace intimidation, and will also review compliance with wage and working hours regulations.
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the CEO's actions are not only a violation of workers' rights but also an affront to human dignity. He asserted that the Ministry would thoroughly investigate the matter and enforce strict penalties based on a zero-tolerance policy due to the likelihood of multiple victims being involved in this case. The government's proactive stance reflects an increasing commitment to safeguarding worker rights in the country.
