Sabesp will pay R$ 2,000 to residents affected by reservoir rupture in Mairiporã (SP)
Sabesp announced it will compensate residents affected by the rupture of a reservoir in Mairiporã with R$ 2,000.
Sabesp, the company responsible for water supply in São Paulo, has communicated its intention to compensate residents affected by the rupture of a reservoir in Mairiporã with a payment of R$ 2,000. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 11, and affected the neighborhood of Capoavinha, resulting in significant displacement of residents. A meeting was held with the affected locals on Thursday to discuss the incident and outline the next steps for support.
The rupture happened during a testing phase, leading to a leakage of approximately 2 million liters of water. According to local city officials, 82 people were affected, with 32 becoming homeless and 50 displaced. In addition to the financial compensation, Sabesp has provided transportation services to assist those living in the affected area. The company stated that the compensation is meant to cover immediate needs such as medication and food for those who had their homes inspected.
This incident highlights the infrastructure challenges within São Paulo's water management systems and raises concerns about the safety measures in place for residents living near such facilities. The compensation offered by Sabesp will help alleviate some immediate hardships, but long-term measures may be necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to ensure residents feel safe in their homes.
