Mairiporã city hall declares state of emergency in two neighborhoods affected by the rupture of a Sabesp water tank
The city hall of Mairiporã has declared a state of emergency after a Sabesp water tank ruptured, leading to one death and nine injuries.
On Thursday, the city hall of Mairiporã, located in Greater São Paulo, declared a state of emergency due to the rupture of a Sabesp water tank that resulted in the death of one construction worker and injuries to nine others. The incident, which took place on Wednesday morning, has prompted evacuations in the affected neighborhoods of Jardim Nery and Capoavinha, where emergency services are actively assisting those impacted.
As of now, around 82 individuals have been evacuated from their homes, and the municipal government has stated that the Civil Defense will conduct assessments of the damaged buildings to determine which houses may need to be temporarily or permanently evacuated. Among the injured, three individuals remain hospitalized, while six have been released, per statements from the local administration led by Mayor Walid Ali Hamid.
With 25 families displaced across the two neighborhoods, 10 families (32 individuals) have been provided shelter in local hotels as emergency measures. The local authorities are mobilizing resources and coordinating with health and emergency services to provide necessary assistance and ensure the safety of residents in the aftermath of this incident.
