Horto Florestal will have free dengue vaccination for children on Friday and Saturday
The Horto Florestal park in São Paulo will offer free dengue vaccinations for children aged 10 to 14 this weekend, alongside educational activities.
The Horto Florestal park, officially known as Parque Estadual Alberto Löfgren, is set to host a free vaccination campaign against dengue fever aimed at children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years. This event will take place on Friday (October 13) and Saturday (October 14), utilizing the dengue vaccine manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals. In Brazil, the current availability of the vaccine through the Unified Health System (SUS) is limited primarily to healthcare professionals and certain priority groups, who have access to a different vaccine from Butantan.
This initiative is part of a broader project named "Pacto Brasil Livre da Dengue + Vila da Prevenção," which is orchestrated by Urbia, the park’s management organization, in conjunction with health authorities and the Japanese laboratory. The project not only aims to provide vaccinations but also engages children through a series of educational activities designed to raise awareness about dengue prevention. A designated area called Vila da Prevenção has been established next to the park's Visitor Center, where monitors will facilitate fun and instructive games for the children.
Overall, this vaccination drive highlights a proactive approach in community health, focusing on protecting young individuals against mosquito-borne illnesses. By making the vaccine accessible and pairing it with education, the effort aims to curb the incidence of dengue within the community and encourage healthier practices among its young residents, ultimately contributing to broader public health initiatives in São Paulo against this infectious disease.
