Environmental Police find wood without license and fines owner of carpentry R$ 1,900 in Presidente Prudente
The owner of a carpentry in Presidente Prudente was fined R$ 1,900 for irregularities concerning forest products.
A 58-year-old man was fined R$ 1,900 due to irregularities related to forest products in the Vila Marina neighborhood of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo. The Brazilian Environmental Police reported that the man owns a carpentry business that is in the process of regularization but currently lacks an approved yard and a Federal Technical Registration for the processing and use of wood. This indicates that he has not fully complied with the legal requirements necessary to operate in this sector.
During a recent inspection, authorities discovered a stockpile of 6.46 cubic meters of sawn wood from the cedrinho and garapeira species, which was being held without the necessary licenses. As a result of these findings, the man was issued an Environmental Infraction Notice, effectively penalizing him for not adhering to environmental regulations that govern the use of forest products. The seized wood has been sent to the headquarters of the Environmental Police in Presidente Prudente.
The case has been referred to the Civil Police, and the individual will face charges under environmental crime laws. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in regulating the wood industry and ensuring compliance with environmental protections in Brazil, particularly as illegal logging and unsanctioned wood processing continue to pose significant threats to the country’s forest resources.
