Police seize two loads of illegal wood valued at R$ 200,000 on BR-232; VIDEO

Federal highway police in Brazil seized illegal wood valued at R$ 200,000 during a routine check on BR-232 in Pernambuco.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) conducted a significant operation between Monday and Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of 100 cubic meters of illegal wood along BR-232 in Sertânia, Pernambuco. This wood, valued at approximately R$ 200,000, was being transported in two trucks without the necessary documentation for legal transport. The wood originated from Belém, Pará, and was destined for Santa Cruz do Capibaribe and Surubim in the Agreste region of Pernambuco.

During the inspections, PRF agents discovered serious irregularities in the environmental and tax documentation related to the cargo. The first truck contained 38 cubic meters of processed timber that lacked a Forest Origin Document, which is mandatory for the transportation and storage of plant products. In contrast, the second truck had 62 cubic meters of timber without not only the Forest Origin Document but also without an invoice, further complicating the legality of the shipment.

As a result of these violations, the PRF issued Circumstantial Terms of Occurrence for the environmental crimes committed during this operation. This action underscores the ongoing issues surrounding illegal logging and the transport of timber in Brazil, highlighting the need for continued enforcement to protect the environment and ensure compliance with legal standards around natural resources.
