A Lithuanian truck driver has been sentenced to 13 years for smuggling 125 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a modified diesel tank.

A Lithuanian truck driver has received a 13-year prison sentence for smuggling 125 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a specially modified diesel tank. This verdict was announced by the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police in a press release following the court decision made today at the Court in Nykøbing Falster. In addition to the prison sentence, the 41-year-old man was also expelled from Denmark and has been given a permanent entry ban.

The incident occurred back in April 2025 when the driver was stopped upon his arrival by ferry at Rødbyhavn. His truck presented standard cargo documentation for a Danish company, which led to it being subjected to a checks due to suspicions of smuggling. The operation was credited to the aggressive efforts of the Immigration Control Department (UKA), whose work has been praised by special prosecutor Skipper Pelle Falsled, emphasizing the successful interception of a significant amount of dangerous drugs that could have reached the market.

The Lithuanian national has decided to appeal the verdict to the higher court, indicating that he is contesting the conviction. This case highlights ongoing issues related to drug trafficking routes in Europe and the effectiveness of law enforcement in intercepting illicit goods before they can pose a threat to public safety.
