Awning collapses on parked cars in DF
An awning collapsed onto seven parked cars in Santa Maria, DF, causing material damage but no injuries.
On the afternoon of November 11, a strong gust of wind caused an awning to collapse onto seven parked cars in Santa Maria, located in the Federal District of Brazil. Fortunately, no individuals were injured during the incident, but the area surrounding the collapse had to be cordoned off to ensure safety. The fire department reported that the damage was limited to material losses rather than personal injuries.
In response to the collapse, the Civil Defense was called to evaluate the overall structure of the area. As a precautionary measure, they decided to close the entrances of three nearby stores until the business owners implement necessary safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. This highlights the importance of structural integrity, especially in areas frequently affected by severe weather conditions.
Additionally, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a yellow alert for the Federal District due to the potential for intense rainfall the following day. Citizens were advised to take precautions amidst the adverse weather conditions, including avoiding sheltering under trees and parking near transmission towers and advertising boards.
