Request for the questioning of Diosdado Cabello for threats against the Argentine reference of Corina Machado

Federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli has formally requested to expand the questioning of Diosdado Cabello for threats made against Argentine activist Elisa Trotta Gamus, within a context of systematic persecution classified as a 'mode of state terrorism'.

Under the principle of universal jurisdiction, which allows any community to prosecute crimes against humanity, federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli formally requested the expansion of the questioning of Diosdado Cabello, the current Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace of Venezuela. This request has been forwarded to the National Criminal and Correctional Federal Court No. 2. The basis of this request lies in threats issued by Cabello, a prominent figure in the Venezuelan government, against Elisa Trotta Gamus, an activist and member of the Argentinian political landscape, and her family.

The investigation focuses on an incident that took place on December 3, 2025, during a broadcast of the television program "Con el Mazo Dando." During this program, Cabello allegedly directed direct threats towards Trotta Gamus, who is the vice president of the Argentine Forum of Political and Social Rights. The prosecutor's office described this situation as part of a broader context of systematic persecution, which they characterized as a form of state terrorism.

Cabello's actions and the accusations against him highlight the deteriorating political climate in Venezuela, as well as the consequences of political dissent within the region. This case could set a precedent for how international law is applied in instances of political persecution and may influence future activism against authoritarian regimes across Latin America.
