He is best known for his work on films including 'Ideaalmaastik' and 'Arabella, Mereröövli Tütar', showcasing his significant impact on the Estonian film industry. Simm was born on February 24, 1953, in Kiviõli and had a profound educational background in film directing, graduating from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow in 1976.
Over his career, Simm worked at Tallinnfilm from 1975 to 1993, initially as an assistant director and then as a director of feature films. In 1993, he founded the studio Lege Artis Film and collaborated with various studios across the industry. His extensive repertoire also includes theater direction, language learning films, advertising, and television shows, further emphasizing his versatile talents.
In addition to his filmmaking, Simm contributed to education as a guest professor in film directing at the Baltic Film, Media, Arts, and Communication School. His legacy includes a variety of full-length films and short films, solidifying his status as a key figure in advancing Estonian cinema during and after the Soviet era.
