Sussex therapist who claimed he could heal trauma with sex jailed for 11 years
A Sussex therapist has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for claiming he could heal trauma through sexual acts.
Gerald Peck, a therapist in Sussex, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences. The court revealed that Peck misled his clients by claiming to be a qualified bioenergetics practitioner capable of healing trauma using sexual methods, including touching and oral sex. These actions not only violated ethical boundaries but also exploited vulnerable individuals seeking help, as one young woman turned to him during a particularly challenging period in her life, believing she could trust him to provide legitimate aid.
During the sentencing at Lewes Crown Court, Judge Mooney highlighted Peck's deceitful conduct, noting that his false representations led the victim to trust him. The judge further pointed out Peck's history of manipulation, as he had previously been banned from practicing by the Bioenergetics Institute due to earlier incidents of sexual abuse disguised as therapeutic practice. This history reflects a pattern of predatory behavior that persisted unabated over decades, demonstrating a concerning lack of regard for the wellbeing of clients.
In addition to the prison sentence, Peck has been ordered to pay £9,730 in damages to the victim to cover costs related to her therapy and legal expenses. This case not only exposes the risks associated with unregulated therapeutic practices but also highlights the necessity for vigilance in safeguarding individuals seeking mental health support, ensuring they do not fall prey to similar exploitative figures in the future.
