The Catholic Theological Faculty is no longer under forced administration, announced the ministry
The Czech Ministry of Education has lifted the forced administration of the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University following a Supreme Administrative Court ruling.
The Ministry of Education in Czechia has announced that the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University no longer falls under forced administration. This decision comes after the Ministry reviewed the findings of the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS), which effectively reinstated Jaroslav Brož in his position as dean after he contested his removal. The NSS's ruling suspended the former rector's decision to dismiss Brož, which had been under scrutiny since it was enacted in February of last year after prolonged disputes about the faculty's leadership.
Previously, the faculty had been administratively managed by the rector of the university following the contentious removal of Brož, which led to various leadership conflicts. Initially, this role was taken by the former rector, Milena Králíčková, followed by Jiří Zima in February of this year. The NSS’s decision to postpone the earlier ruling regarding Brož's dismissal reflects a significant legal development that prioritizes academic autonomy and governance at the university level.
This development also indicates a shift towards stability in the faculty's administration, which had been marred by disputes and disagreements. The Ministry now hopes that by reversing the forced administration, the faculty can focus on its primary mission of education and theological studies without the distractions of legal battles or administrative upheaval. The resolution of this conflict is a vital step in maintaining the integrity and academic reputation of the Catholic Theological Faculty.
