Liberia: World Bank Pumps $137m Into Digital Jobs, Skills in Liberia, S/Leone, Benin

The World Bank has approved a $137 million initiative to enhance digital jobs and skills in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Benin, aiming to strengthen the digital economy in these countries.

The World Bank Group recently approved a significant funding initiative as part of the Western Africa Regional Digital Integration Program (WARDIP). This $137 million project targets digital job creation and skills development specifically in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Benin. By focusing on improving digital infrastructure, creating a more business-friendly environment, and facilitating regional market operations, the initiative aims to lay a foundation for a more robust digital economy.

One of the principal goals of this initiative is to enhance broadband access and usage within the participating countries. With plans to connect approximately 5.2 million individuals to improved or new broadband internet, the project is positioned to drastically increase digital engagement among the populations. Additionally, around 5.4 million new users are expected to begin utilizing digitally enabled services, thereby fostering a culture of digital innovation and entrepreneurship in West Africa.

This funding not only aims to boost the local economies by promoting digital job opportunities but also seeks to enable businesses in these nations to scale operations across regional markets. As West Africa continues to navigate the complexities of a digital transition, initiatives like WARDIP2 are crucial for enhancing competitiveness and ensuring that the region keeps pace with global economic trends.
