BCCI will award dropped cricketer, with other legends also being honored
Cricketer Shubman Gill, despite being dropped from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 squad, will receive the 'Cricketer of the Year' award from the BCCI for his outstanding performance in 2025.
Shubman Gill, the captain of India's Test and ODI teams, has not been included in the 15-member squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Despite his exclusion, he is set to receive a significant accolade from Indian cricket, specifically the 'Cricketer of the Year' award at the BCCI's annual 'Naman Awards' scheduled for March 15. This honor is in recognition of his remarkable performance in 2025, which saw him excel in Test and ODI formats, despite disappointing results in T20 internationals.
In the year 2025, Gill displayed exceptional form in Test cricket, managing to score 983 runs in just 9 matches at an impressive average of 70.21. Most of his runs were scored during a Test series against England, where he hit 4 centuries and accumulated 754 runs. His performance significantly contributed to India's standing in the Test rankings, showcasing his skills and resilience as a leading batsman during high-stakes matches.
Additionally, the BCCI is also set to honor former coach and captain Rahul Dravid with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his contributions to Indian cricket over the years. This event not only celebrates individual talent like Gill's but also highlights the legacy of past legends like Dravid, illustrating the ongoing evolution and richness of Indian cricket culture that continues to inspire future generations.
