After Review - Fjordell (S) Resigns: "Do Not Want to Harm the Company"
Jan Fjordell has resigned from his positions at PGM after being criticized for conflicts of interest regarding contracts at Tekniska verken.
Jan Fjordell, the former CEO of Tekniska verken, has resigned from his position as both a board member and chairman of the consulting company PGM following allegations of conflicts of interest. Reports revealed that Fjordell had been awarded million-dollar contracts without open bidding and had approved invoices from PGM to LKAB. These issues brought into question his appropriateness for the role, as expressed by LKAB's press chief Mikko Viitala, who highlighted concerns over suitable governance rather than legal issues.
The scrutiny first emerged when SVT Norrbotten reported on Fjordell's dual role in consulting for PGM while managing contracts related to LKAB. The legislative authority in the county received a letter from LKAB detailing these concerns, indicating a potential conflict in Fjordell's responsibilities. Consequently, after the public disclosures and media attention regarding his decisions, he decided to step down to avoid causing further damage to the reputation of the involved companies.
In his resignation statement, Fjordell expressed his discontent with the media scrutiny he faced, labeling the coverage as unreasonable and unfair. He remains active in other community roles, including positions with Aurora kultur and Jukkasjärvi sockens belysningsförening, which shows his continued commitment to local affairs despite the controversies around his recent dealings.
