The average salary in the IT sector has surpassed the ghost threshold
The average salary of IT professionals in Finland has exceeded 5,000 euros per month for the first time.
The latest labor market research conducted by Tietoala ry and the Engineers' Association reveals that for the first time, the average salary of IT professionals in Finland has crossed the 5,000 euros mark, specifically standing at 5,188 euros monthly. The median salary also saw an increase of 4.7% from the previous year, setting it at 5,026 euros. This rise indicates a growing demand for skilled individuals in this sector, highlighting a shift in labor market trends within Finland's technology landscape.
The highest salary levels were found in the capital region, where the median salary reached 5,360 euros, diverging from the national average by approximately 12.9%. However, it is noteworthy that starting salaries for recent graduates have actually dropped compared to last year, with a median salary of 3,141 euros. This paradox points to an increasing disparity in pay within the IT profession, signaling possible challenges ahead for newly entering professionals despite the overall strong performance of the sector.
The report also indicated that individuals changing jobs experienced an average salary increase of 600 euros, a decrease from the previous year's average rise of 800 euros in similar circumstances. Such data reflect the precarious employment conditions that the IT sector is currently facing, suggesting that while established roles may offer better compensation, new entrants may struggle to find comparable opportunities or satisfactory pay as they enter the workforce. Therefore, while the sector is thriving, systemic issues remain that need attention.
