In October 2025, a cleaner in Vantaa stumbled upon a stash of drugs while performing a final cleanup of a rental apartment. This find prompted the East Uusimaa police to investigate the background of the tenant, revealing that the same person had rented multiple apartments in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The investigation quickly escalated as police executed searches on these properties, uncovering cocaine, marijuana, and large sums of cash.

The drug network was found to be sophisticated, operating across various rental apartments in the capital region, facilitating the importation and distribution of narcotics from Italy and Albania. Drugs were sent to Finland concealed in postal packages and freight shipments, which were then delivered to pre-arranged addresses within the country. Authorities indicated that the trafficking activities had commenced in early 2025, highlighting a concerning influx of organized drug operations into Finland's urban life.

Three individuals, all citizens of Italy and Albania, were arrested during the operation, according to Crime Commissioner Tero Tyynelä, who is leading the investigation.
