Memories from the Aegean – A photographic journey in Greece of another era
An upcoming photography exhibition titled 'Memories from the Aegean' will showcase the work of renowned photographer Robert A. McCabe in Paros, Greece, featuring images from the 1950s to the 1970s.
The Environmental and Cultural Park of Paros is set to open a new cycle of cultural actions in 2026, following a rich program of music, theater, and dance events that concluded in September. One of the highlights will be the photography exhibition 'Memories from the Aegean,' which will run from March 28 to September 30, 2026, at the Porto Aoussa art space in Naoussa, Paros. The exhibition will feature 82 selected photographs by the internationally acclaimed photographer Robert A. McCabe, specifically chosen for Paros in collaboration with exhibition curator Kostas Vidakis.
Through McCabe's lens, visitors will embark on a journey through the Aegean islands from the 1950s to the late 1970s, showcasing a Greece that preceded the tourism boom and the advent of modern transportation. The photographs capture simple and proud people who lived and worked in an authentic, unpretentious landscape. This exhibition promises to be a nostalgic reflection on a bygone era, revealing the cultural and social dynamics of the time.
As the event approaches, it highlights the continued importance of cultural exhibitions in enhancing the local community's engagement with its heritage and history, making it an essential part of Paros's cultural offerings. McCabe's work not only documents a significant chapter in the island's history but also serves to inspire future generations to appreciate their roots and the evolution of their environment.
