Italy's Ministry of Culture has acquired a significant Baroque painting by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for 30 million euros, marking a notable event in art history. The decision comes after over a year of negotiations with a private collector, an uncommon approach as these types of artworks are usually sold at auction. Minister Alessandro Giuliani emphasized the importance of this work, describing it as a turning point in Caravaggio’s oeuvre and an essential piece for further research.
