Installation by James Turrell transforms the sky into a game of colors in José Ignacio
A new installation by American artist James Turrell at the Ayana hotel in José Ignacio combines artificial lights with natural sunrise and sunset, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
The Ayana hotel in José Ignacio, located 33 kilometers from Punta del Este, has become a popular destination for early risers, thanks to its installation of American artist James Turrell's artwork titled 'Ta Khut', which means 'light' in ancient Egyptian. Visitors are encouraged to wake up at 4:30 AM to view the sky bathed in a blend of artificial and natural light during sunrise, making the experience unique and captivating.
'Family' to a planetarium, this artistic creation features a white dome with a circular opening at the top, allowing guests to gaze directly at the sky while being surrounded by color-changing lights that transition through a rainbow of hues. This innovative setup is the second of its kind by Turrell in Latin America, with the first located in Argentina, highlighting the artist's commitment to exploring the relationship between light and environmental elements in his artworks.
The concept for this installation came about at the behest of Austrian couple Robert and Edda Kofler, who own the Ayana hotel. With 14 spacious suites and a beach house, the boutique hotel not only provides luxurious accommodations but also serves as a platform for unique art, attracting both art enthusiasts and travelers seeking a distinctive experience in Uruguay.
