New landslide on old road to Nayón, in the northeastern part of Quito

A landslide has occurred on the old road to Nayón in northeastern Quito, prompting emergency actions by the municipal authorities.

The Municipality of Quito has reported a landslide on another stretch of the old road to Nayón, specifically in the area near the Universidad de las Américas (UDLA). This incident was triggered by heavy rains that have been affecting the city in recent days, leading to the dislodging of debris along the road. Municipal teams were mobilized on Wednesday afternoon to address the emergency that arose from these severe weather conditions.

Currently, the municipal teams are engaged in clearing approximately 300 cubic meters of debris from the affected area. In addition to debris removal, they are also involved in cutting and removing fallen trees that have obstructed the roadway. After these efforts are completed, a technical assessment will be carried out to evaluate the condition of the hillside in this sector, which will inform any further actions necessary to ensure the safety of road users.

As a precaution, the road remains closed, and the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) has advised drivers to use alternative routes, including the Simón Bolívar avenue, to avoid the impacted area. The local authorities are taking these measures seriously to prevent accidents and ensure the continuous safety of residents and travelers in Quito, especially given the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
