Suspect of murdering elderly man with blows during robbery in TO is arrested in PI

A fugitive suspected of murdering a 65-year-old man during a robbery in Chapada da Natividade, Tocantins, has been arrested in the rural area of Barreiras do Piauí.

A fugitive identified as L.C. de M. was arrested in Barreiras do Piauí after being suspected of fatally assaulting a 65-year-old man during a robbery in Chapada da Natividade, Tocantins, back in November 2025. The elderly victim was reportedly attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and mobile phone during the incident. Following the robbery, the suspect was seen using the stolen motorcycle but managed to evade capture until his recent arrest.

The arrest took place on the morning of Tuesday, November 11, when police from the Gilbués precinct acted upon a preventive arrest warrant against the suspect. Upon being approached by the authorities, the suspect attempted to flee into a nearby forest but was quickly apprehended. At the time of his arrest, he was armed, indicating the potential risk he posed to law enforcement and the surrounding community. The operation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by police in capturing suspects involved in violent crimes.

The captured individual has since been forwarded to a penitentiary facility in Piauí, where he will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings. This incident raises concerns about violent crime trends in the region, as well as the efficacy of law enforcement in tracking down offenders and preventing violent acts against vulnerable populations such as the elderly. It also emphasizes the importance of inter-state cooperation in addressing crime, as the suspect fled from Tocantins to Piauí, complicating his capture and subsequent prosecution.
