Bubble for breakfast becomes reality in Höganäs

Höganäs will allow morning alcohol sales starting at 7 AM for a one-year trial, aimed at serving breakfast drinks to guests, especially targeting demand from Danish visitors.

In a notable decision, the municipality of Höganäs in Sweden will begin a one-year trial allowing the sale of alcohol from 7 AM, catering primarily to guests of the Strandgården pension, who have requested the option to enjoy beverages such as sparkling wine with breakfast. This change comes in response to the increased demand from Danish visitors who are accustomed to having drinks like cava available during breakfast buffets abroad.

The initiative is spearheaded by Strandgården's owner, Christer Paulsson, who noted the cultural differences in breakfast dining experiences, highlighting that it is common in other countries to find sparkling wine available to create mimosas in the morning. However, strict regulations will accompany this pilot program; applicants for the early-serving permits must provide accommodation options, preventing the establishment of merely bars opening early.

Fredrik Walderyd, the chairman of the Building and Environmental Committee, indicated that the council intends to evaluate the outcome of this trial after one year to assess its impact on the community and economy. This initiative could potentially enhance the local hospitality industry while adapting to the preferences of international guests, marking a shift in Swedish breakfast culture.
