The Security Council adopts a resolution condemning Iranian attacks on the Gulf and Jordan
The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf countries and Jordan, with majority support despite abstentions from Russia and China.
The UN Security Council has approved a Gulf-Jordanian draft resolution condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, passing with a vote of 13 in favor while Russia and China abstained. The resolution highlights that these Iranian actions violate international law and pose significant threats to international peace and security. It demands an immediate cessation of all threats or provocations from Iran towards neighboring countries, particularly the use of proxy forces against them.
Qatar's UN ambassador, Sheikha Alya Al Thani, stressed that the Iranian attacks on Qatar are unjustifiable and represent an unacceptable escalation. She pointed out that such attacks put civilians at risk and damage infrastructure, warning that any failure to respond would send a dangerous message that attacking uninvolved nations carries no consequences. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabiaโs representative, Abdulaziz Al Wasil, indicated that Iran's actions do not contribute to reducing tensions and are inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness.
In a similar vein, UAEโs representative Mohammed Abu Shihab emphasized that his country does not seek escalation but is prepared to take all necessary measures in response to Iranian aggression. This resolution underscores the ongoing tensions in the region related to Iranian military activities and the collective stance of Gulf nations in addressing perceived threats from Tehran, aiming to foster regional security and stability.
