Machine that transforms a read book into another copy arrives in Santos; understand how it works
A new book exchange initiative called the Incredible Book Machine has been launched in Santos, Brazil, allowing participants to swap used books for other surprise titles.
The Incredible Book Machine has arrived in Santos, São Paulo, where from October 12 to 14, locals can engage in a unique book exchange program at the Chico Mendes Botanical Garden. This project is designed to encourage the circulation of books by allowing people to drop off a used book in good condition and receive a surprise title in return, selected by the machine itself. Participants can choose from both children's and adult literature, fostering a fun and engaging atmosphere with interactive sound and visual effects.
The machine is capable of exchanging up to 1,000 books each day and aims to promote literacy and reading culture among the public. Individuals can swap up to three books at a time during the operating hours from 9 AM to 5 PM. The collection features a wide array of Brazilian literature, including classics from authors like Machado de Assis and Cecília Meireles, as well as contemporary writers such as Conceição Evaristo and Itamar Vieira Júnior, ensuring that the selection appeals to diverse audience tastes.
This initiative is part of a broader effort across Brazil to make literature accessible and encourage people to engage with books in public spaces. By creating an interactive and playful environment for book exchange, the project aims not only to provide physical books but also to instill a love of reading within the community, thought to be essential for cultural enrichment and individual growth. As community members participate in this innovative program, it contributes positively to the dynamics of cultural appreciation in Santos and potentially beyond.
