Tourist who died after drowning in Fernando de Noronha was a doctor from São Paulo
A tourist identified as Lucas Henrique Abrunhosa Nozoe, a 31-year-old doctor from São Paulo, drowned while visiting Fernando de Noronha, with his wife also suffering from the incident.
Lucas Henrique Abrunhosa Nozoe, a 31-year-old doctor from Cotia, SP, tragically drowned while swimming at Praia do Meio in Fernando de Noronha on Monday, October 9. Efforts by local residents and the Fire Brigade to rescue him were unsuccessful, resulting in his death. This incident highlights the dangers of popular tourist destinations and the risks that can arise even in seemingly safe environments.
In a frightening turn of events, Lucas's wife, Glenda Moraes da Silva, who is also a physician aged 29, also experienced difficulties in the water and was rescued. She was initially taken to Hospital São Lucas on the island but was later transferred in critical condition to Hospital da Restauração (HR) in Recife. Following her arrival at HR, due to familial decisions, she was moved to a private hospital while still fighting for her life.
The couple was in Fernando de Noronha to celebrate a friend’s birthday, who is likewise a physician. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential perils associated with recreational activities in coastal areas and underscores the need for vigilance and safety measures while enjoying such locations, particularly in popular but often challenging natural settings.
