Gasoline with water in Manabí: Dispatch suspended in Jipijapa after complaints
A gas station in Jipijapa, Manabí, was found to be selling contaminated gasoline, leading authorities to suspend its operations following citizen complaints.
In Jipijapa, a city in the Manabí province of Ecuador, authorities acted on a citizen report about contaminated gasoline. The Agency for Regulation and Hydrocarbon Control, in conjunction with the Hydrocarbons Crime Investigation Unit of the Police, carried out inspections at a local gas station. Their investigations revealed the presence of excessive water and sediments in the premium gasoline being sold, violating established safety limits.
As a result of the inspection, officials temporarily suspended the fuel dispensers at the gas station to ensure compliance with existing regulations. This action was prompted by multiple alerts from users who observed irregularities in the fuel quality. One of the most notable complaints came from a policeman named Willmer Peñaherrera, an individual known on social media, who highlighted the potential dangers of such fuel contamination.
The mixing of water with gasoline can lead to significant operational issues in vehicles, such as engine damage, corrosion, ignition failure, and costly repairs in injector systems and fuel pumps. This incident underscores the importance of regular monitoring and regulatory oversight in the fuel industry to prevent similar occurrences in the future and protect consumers from hazardous fuel products.
