Businessman is found dead after jet ski ride in lagoon in Ceará

Businessman Euclides Victor Paiva de Azevedo, known as 'Catorze', was found dead after drowning during a jet ski ride in Lagoa do Catu, Ceará.

Euclides Victor Paiva de Azevedo, a businessman known by the nickname 'Catorze', tragically drowned after falling from a jet ski during a recreational ride at Lagoa do Catu in Aquiraz, near Fortaleza, on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 10. Eyewitnesses reported that he was seen entering the lagoon with the jet ski before losing control and falling into the water. A video capturing the moment he entered the lagoon serves as a piece of evidence in understanding the incident.

Despite wearing a life vest at the beginning of the ride, it is reported that Paiva removed the vest in an attempt to swim back to shore after the fall. Unfortunately, he was unable to reach safety and disappeared beneath the surface of the water. The Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Brigade) initiated a search for Paiva, which continued until the following morning when divers located his body submerged approximately 20 meters from where he had last been seen.

This incident raises concerns regarding safety protocols for water sports in the region, particularly the importance of wearing life jackets throughout the activity. This tragic event has not only shocked the local community but also highlights a larger need for better safety awareness practices during recreational water activities, especially as such events gain popularity in Brazil.
