Operation targeting faction scheme in prison executes warrants in MS and 3 other states

An operation named "Pigeon Without Wings" was launched by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Mato Grosso do Sul to dismantle a criminal faction involved in drug trafficking and corruption.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul (MPMS) initiated Operation 'Pigeon Without Wings' on Wednesday, which aims to dismantle a criminal organization operating both inside and outside prisons in Campo Grande. The operation involves the arrest of members connected to drug trafficking and the corruption of public officials to facilitate the smuggling of drugs and mobile phones into prisons, including the involvement of a military police officer who has been expelled due to corruption charges.

The operation includes the execution of 35 warrants for preventive arrests and 24 search and seizure warrants across Campo Grande and three other states: São Paulo, Mato Grosso, and Rio Grande do Norte. The investigations commenced when evidence from another case revealed the misconduct of a military police officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, highlighting the far-reaching impact of corruption within law enforcement related to the operations of criminal factions.

By targeting the nexus of criminal activity and corruption, the MPMS aims not only to arrest offenders but also to disrupt the entire network that enables the trafficking of narcotics and illicit items into prisons. This action reflects a larger ongoing effort by Brazilian authorities to combat organized crime and enhance public safety, addressing the systemic issues that allow such illegal activities to persist within the country's prison systems.
