Datafolha: Haddad, Alckmin, and Tebet lead the race for the two Senate seats from SP

A recent Datafolha survey indicates that Fernando Haddad, Geraldo Alckmin, and Simone Tebet lead the competition for the two Senate vacancies in São Paulo.

According to the latest Datafolha poll, the Brazilian political landscape is shaping up for the 2026 elections, with key figures such as Fernando Haddad, current Minister of Finance and member of the PT, Geraldo Alckmin, the Vice President from PSB, and Simone Tebet, Minister of Planning from MDB, emerging as the frontrunners for the two Senate seats available in São Paulo. This survey highlights the potential candidates from the progressive camp outperforming those aligned with the right.

The poll results show a clear indication of the political division in Brazil, as the most competitive candidate from the right side, Deputy Guilherme Derrite from the PP, currently holds a lesser position compared to his progressive counterparts. With the upcoming 2026 elections requiring voters to select two candidates each for a Senate seat, the dynamics of the race are critical because they will influence the significant turnover of two-thirds of the Senate's composition.

Furthermore, the Datafolha research conducted between March 3 and 5 also reveals two hypothetical scenarios involving ten potential candidates each. This indicates not only the current leading figures but also the broader implications of candidate popularity, electoral strategies, and possible shifts in voters' allegiance as the election approaches. The outcomes may not only reshape the Senate but could also be indicative of the electoral mood across Brazil, providing insight into public sentiment going forward.
