Otepää is ready for the biathlon World Cup test event
Otepää is preparing to host the Biathlon World Cup event, which serves as a dress rehearsal for the 2027 World Championships.
The Tehvandi Sports Center in Otepää is set to host a Biathlon World Cup event from Thursday to the end of the weekend, with expectations of fresh Olympic champions attending. Organizers are anticipating a large turnout, advising spectators to arrive early. Although the weather has been spring-like at Tehvandi Sports Center, training days have gone well. Hillar Zahkna, the chairperson of the event organizing committee, noted that the tracks are in good condition and should hold up well through Sunday due to a sufficient snow reserve.
This year's World Cup stage is significant as it serves as a vital rehearsal for the biathlon World Championships scheduled for 2027. Organizers are planning to test several logistical aspects this week, such as the placement and size of additional stands. Zahkna emphasized the importance of this event in fine-tuning preparations by ensuring that everything runs smoothly ahead of the World Championships. The weekend event is expected to attract around 15,000 spectators to Otepää, making it a pivotal moment for both the local tourism and sports community.
Beyond the competitions, attendees are encouraged to enjoy the full day's offerings, including entertainment options available at the venue. This initiative is not just about the sports but also aims to create a festive atmosphere for all visitors, contributing to a lively community spirit in Otepää during the winter sports season.
