Drivers told ‘never’ do these three things when an ambulance is behind you
Drivers are warned to avoid certain behaviors when an ambulance is behind them to prevent risking lives and incurring fines.
In the UK, drivers are being urged to be mindful when an ambulance is approaching from behind, as reckless actions can endanger lives and potentially lead to fines. Ambulance crew members Sarah Tate and Sam Quinn highlighted key guidelines for motorists during a segment on BBC’s Morning Live. They emphasized that the safest reaction is to pull to the left or allow the vehicle to pass through the middle of traffic while stopping at red lights rather than trying to rush through.
Sarah Tate specifically cautioned against proceeding through red lights, explaining that when an ambulance approaches and drivers are at a stoplight, it’s advisable to remain stationary. If drivers do not follow this advice and try to 'make way' inappropriately, it could lead to further complications in managing the situation. For instance, ambulances may have to disengage their sirens to avoid causing panic among drivers who are uncertain about how to react, as a loud siren might not help in such scenarios.
The advice serves not only to protect emergency responders but also to ensure that the health of patients in need of urgent medical attention is prioritized. By driving responsibly and adhering to these guidelines, motorists can significantly contribute to ensuring safer roads and better outcomes for those requiring ambulance services.
