‘Rumor of President Lee’s Dismissal of Charges’...Government and Party Call it 'Absurd Conspiracy Theory'

The ruling party and government officials in South Korea vehemently dismissed allegations of a conspiracy involving President Lee's dismissal of charges against him as an absurd conspiracy theory, while the opposition called for a special investigation.

Amid ongoing legislative conflicts regarding judicial reform, recent claims on a YouTube channel suggested that President Lee communicated with top prosecutors about dismissing charges against him. This has provoked a strong reaction from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea as well as the Blue House, who labeled these allegations as conspiracy theories. Prominent party members, including policy chief Han Jeong-ae, expressed their anger over the claims, arguing that such implications require stringent evidence, particularly given the political implications involved.

In a related remark, former journalist Jang In-su noted that a senior government official allegedly conveyed a message to high-ranking prosecutors indicating a willingness to work on having the President's charges dismissed in exchange for maintaining prosecutorial powers. This perceived maneuvering has further fueled the suspicion and anger towards the ruling party, as the public has been reminded of the charges hanging over the President related to various accusations of corruption and misconduct since his election.

The rapid spread of these theories online, particularly on social media, has amplified calls from the opposition People Power Party for an independent investigation to uncover the veracity of these claims. Amidst a backdrop of political tension, the ruling party remains adamant in repeating their denunciation of the conspiracy narrative while they deal with crises involving the administration's integrity and the ongoing debate over judicial reforms.
