Minister Jeong Seong-ho dismisses allegations of a transaction regarding the cancellation of President Lee's indictment as a 'ridiculous conspiracy theory'
Korean Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho has rejected claims made on a YouTube broadcast suggesting that there was a conspiracy involving President Lee regarding the cancellation of his indictment, calling it a ridiculous conspiracy theory.
In response to allegations made during a YouTube broadcast by Kim Eo-jun, Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho has labeled claims of a supposed transaction to cancel the indictment of President Lee Jae-myung as a 'ridiculous conspiracy theory.' Jeong emphasized that such baseless claims detract from serious discussions surrounding needed reforms in the prosecution system. He stated that he has never communicated with prosecutors about canceling indictments related to specific cases or sent related messages, asserting the importance of focusing on constructive reform discussions. Minister Jeong reiterated his commitment to prosecutorial reform, stating that it should be anchored in public safety and the protection of human rights. He expressed disappointment over the emergence of unfounded theories which could lead to division and conflict in what should be a rational public discourse on necessary changes in the prosecution. The Minister is keen on emphasizing that there is no room for conspiratorial speculations in the critical conversations surrounding reform, indicating that the mission of the Ministry of Justice is to ensure the prosecution serves the public credibly and efficiently. Just a day prior, former MBC journalist Jang In-soo appeared on a broadcast to claim that a senior government official close to President Lee had allegedly conveyed messages to high-ranking prosecutors suggesting they cancel Lee's indictment. Such comments add a layer of complexity and tension to the already heated dialogue surrounding prosecutorial reform in South Korea, highlighting the challenges faced within the government’s attempts to maintain transparency and integrity in judicial processes while combating allegations of impropriety and corruption.
