Africa: IATF 2027 - Lagos Prepares to Host Africa's Largest Trade Platform

Nigeria is set to host the Intra-African Trade Fair 2027 in Lagos, aimed at enhancing trade across Africa.

Nigeria has been selected to host the fifth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2027) from November 5 to 11, 2027, in Lagos, under the theme ‘Global Africa, Smart Trade - From Market Access to Market Power’. This event serves as a significant platform designed to accelerate trade and economic integration across the African continent within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The announcement, made on March 9, was met with a positive reception from various African leaders, emphasizing the event’s importance for boosting trade and collaboration amongst African nations.

During the formal announcement of Nigeria as the host country, Dr. George Elombi, President of the African Export-Import Bank, underlined the importance of the event, stating that it symbolized a major opportunity for economic growth. He used the metaphor of an ‘elephant appearing on the horizon’ to signify the magnitude of this trade fair and Nigeria’s potential role as a leader in entrepreneurial dynamism within the continent. The hosting of such a large-scale event in Lagos is expected to draw significant attention from international businesses and trade organizations, further solidifying Nigeria’s position as a key player in African trade.

The IATF 2027 not only aims to provide a platform for businesses to explore new markets and partnerships but also reinforces the goals of the AfCFTA in creating a unified and economically strong Africa. As preparations commence, the fair is anticipated to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, governments, and private sectors, enhancing Nigeria's capacity for trade and investment and potentially leading to increased economic benefits across the continent. This initiative represents a vital step towards enhancing intra-African trade relations and achieving sustainable economic growth throughout Africa.
