Former head of RKIK has started working in the defense industry company
Magnus-Valdemar Saar, the former director of the Government Defense Investment Centre in Estonia, has taken up a new role as CEO at Wolfram Europa.
Magnus-Valdemar Saar, who previously served as the director of the Government Defense Investment Centre (RKIK) in Estonia from 2021 until his resignation on July 15, 2022, has announced on LinkedIn that he has started a new position as the CEO of Wolfram Europa OĆ, a defense industry company. Saar stated that he left his role at RKIK voluntarily. Wolfram Europa was registered on July 14, 2025, and is partly owned by notable figures in the Estonian defense sector.
Prior to its current name, Wolfram Europa operated under the name Wehold. This company has connections to well-known entities such as Frankenburg Technologies, which employs several former high-ranking defense officials, including Kusti Salm, Martin Herem, and Veiko-Vello Palm. The overlapping ownership circles suggest a continuing relationship between former government officials and the defense industry, raising questions about the revolving door phenomenon between public service and private enterprise.
The implications of this transition are significant, as it reflects the ongoing intertwining of defense-related businesses and government personnel in Estonia. As security concerns rise globally, individuals with experience in defense management are likely to play critical roles in shaping the operational and strategic directions of companies like Wolfram Europa. This trend could lead to enhanced collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing national defense needs, although it may also draw scrutiny regarding transparency and potential conflicts of interest.
