March 11 marks the 36th anniversary of Lithuania's independence, commemorating the historic events of 1990.

On Wednesday, Lithuania celebrates the 36th anniversary of its restoration of independence, recalling the significant March 11, 1990, when the Supreme Council of the Restoring Seimas adopted the Act. The day will commence at Independence Square in front of the Seimas building, where flowers will be laid at the 'Knowledge' monument to honor this pivotal moment in Lithuania's history.

Following the initial ceremonies, a commemorative event will be held in the historical room of the Parliament where the Act of March 11 was adopted, featuring the presentation of state independence scholarships. This year, the scholarship will be awarded to Adomas Klimantas, a lecturer and researcher from ISM University of Management and Economics, highlighting the role of education and research in sustaining national identity and independence.

The festivities will include speeches from local dignitaries such as the Speaker of the Seimas, Juozas Olekas, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, signatory of the Act, Algimantas Norvilas, and a representative of the younger generation, Mūza Svetickaitė. At noon, a ceremony in Independence Square will see the flags of the three Baltic states prominently displayed, showcasing regional solidarity and shared historical experiences.
