May be forced to shut down the marina – Andreas criticizes Piteå's business climate

The local marina operated by PSS Motor and Marina is facing eviction due to development plans for a new coastal quarter in Piteå, raising concerns about the city's business climate.

Piteå Municipality aims to transform the centrally located Norra hamn area into a new coastal district that will include housing, restaurants, and hotels, with hopes for construction to commence within five years. The current marina in the area, managed by PSS Motor and Marina, is also expected to remain, but the municipality plans to evict the business to make way for the new development. Owner Andreas Bjurström expresses frustration over the situation, as his company has significantly expanded since he took over five years ago, tripling its turnover.

PSS Motor and Marina plays a vital role in the local maritime activities in Piteå, refurbishing and preparing boats, maintaining docks, and managing overall marina operations. However, with the municipality's plans for a new coastal quarter, the building housing the marina will be demolished, leaving Bjurström and his team without a space to operate. The only alternative location offered by the landlord, PNF, is in Öjebyn, which Bjurström claims would not be viable for running a marina business due to distance and accessibility issues.

This eviction raises broader concerns about Piteå's business climate, as locals depend on the marina for boating activities and tourism. The community is left questioning the balance between urban development and the preservation of local businesses that contribute to the economy and cultural identity of the area.
