PSB requests the removal of Ibaneis by the STF due to contract with fund linked to Master
The PSB party has requested the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil to remove Governor Ibaneis Rocha over alleged serious misconduct involving a law firm's financial dealings.
The PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) in the Federal District has formally requested the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to remove Governor Ibaneis Rocha from office. This demand arises from accusations that Rocha’s law firm, from which he claims to have distanced himself since 2018, sold rights pertaining to substantial legal fees to a fund implicated in the ongoing investigations surrounding the Banco Master fraud. The PSB contends that this arrangement not only breaches ethical standards but also indicates potential criminal activities conducted by Rocha and his office.
The accusations levied by the PSB include serious allegations such as mismanagement of a financial institution, passive corruption, influence trafficking, administrative advocacy, criminal organization, and money laundering. Furthermore, the party points to likely misconduct—both acts of commission and omission—within the management of the Bank of Brasília (BRB), underscoring the wider implications of Rocha's actions not just for his governorship but also for the institutional integrity of financial operations within the region.
Ricardo Cappelli, a PSB leader and prospective gubernatorial candidate, emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating that Ibaneis has lost the conditions to govern the Federal District while managing the BRB under such allegations. The fallout from this request could have significant political repercussions for Rocha, potentially reshaping the governmental landscape in the Federal District leading up to forthcoming elections, reflecting broader concerns over accountability in political leadership in Brazil.
