Justice convicts 2 accused of killing university student in robbery in the East Zone of SP to more than 30 years in prison
Two men have been sentenced to over 30 years in prison for the robbery and murder of 20-year-old university student Beatriz Munhos in São Paulo.
On Thursday, October 5, Brazilian Justice sentenced two of the four individuals accused of the robbery that led to the death of 20-year-old university student Beatriz Munhos. The crime took place in 2025 in São Paulo's East Zone during a transaction for the sale of a drone, which Beatriz had advertised online. Isaías dos Santos Silva, identified as the shooter, received a sentence of 31 years and 6 months, while Lucas Kauan da Silva Pereira, accused of driving the motorcycle used during the crime, was sentenced to 30 years and 4 months.
Both Silva and Pereira were convicted of latrocínio, which is a robbery followed by murder, and will serve their sentences in a closed regime. Their involvement was made clear during the trial, where the court found that both played direct roles in the fatal encounter with Beatriz. The judiciary noted that they participated in the robbery that ended tragically for the victim, who traveled from Sorocaba to São Paulo to sell her drone. Two additional suspects remain in custody and are being processed separately in connection with the same crime; their roles are still under review as investigations continue.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of urban violence and crime in Brazil, particularly in major cities like São Paulo. The brutal nature of the crime has drawn significant attention, drawing public discourse around safety and the legal system's response to such violent incidents. Beatriz's tragic death serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities associated with personal transactions conducted over the internet, raising awareness about the potential dangers involved.
