Police have launched an investigation into train glass damage; passenger heard a possible shot

Police in Latvia are investigating an incident where a train's glass was damaged, with a passenger reporting a possible gunshot, though no injuries occurred.

In Latvia, police have initiated an investigation following an incident involving a train where a passenger reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot. The incident prompted an inquiry by the State Police after the train staff were alerted by the passenger. According to Sigita Paula, head of the Communications and Marketing department at 'Vivi' (the train service), it was confirmed that no passengers were injured during the occurrence. The train continued its journey thanks to safety glass designed to withstand significant impact, which prevented any dangerous glass fragments from entering the train's interior.

The company has refrained from commenting on the theory that the damage was caused by a firearm, as the police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter. 'Vivi' also highlighted that vandalism towards trains is a recurring issue, noting that such attacks happen approximately once a month. Often, these acts involve youths throwing stones or placing objects on the tracks, which poses serious risks to both passengers and train personnel. The company has urged parents to discuss the risks of such behavior with their children, particularly as these incidents frequently occur during school holidays when children have more free time.

This incident raises important concerns regarding passenger safety and the persistent issue of vandalism in public transport. As authorities continue to investigate the source of the damage, there is a call for greater awareness and preventive measures against such reckless behavior, underscoring the need for community involvement to protect public services and ensure the safety and security of travelers.
