IBGE and MinC will resume mapping of the cultural sector in municipalities and states
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will resume mapping the cultural sector in municipalities and states, the first since 2014, as part of efforts to gather comprehensive data on public policies and resources allocated to culture.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) is set to restart its mapping of the cultural sector across municipalities and states in Brazil, which hadn't been conducted since 2014. This initiative, called the Cultural Supplement, plays a significant role within two broader projects, namely the Municipal Basic Information Research (Munic) and the State Basic Information Research (Estadic). These projects are designed in collaboration with public managers to gather essential data on the administrative structure, public policies, resources, services, and institutional capacity of municipal and state governments.
The inclusion of artistic sector mapping aims to provide insights into cultural budgeting in cities and states, detailing how funds are allocated for the culture sector. It will explore the organizational structures of governing bodies, the profiles of their leaders, existing cultural plans, and how regions are participating in cultural training initiatives. This comprehensive approach seeks to enhance the understanding of cultural investment and governance across Brazil, thereby positioning cultural policies within a broader context of public administration.
The revival of this mapping project was coordinated by the Ministry of Culture (MinC), which has actively collaborated with various stakeholders to ensure the integration of cultural data into state and municipal planning. This initiative is expected to significantly impact how cultural resources are managed and distributed, fostering greater accountability and strategic planning in cultural policy development throughout the country.
