Good news for many Finnish electric car owners: Free new battery for the car, warranty starts anew
Mercedes-Benz is replacing batteries for certain EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ electric vehicles in Finland due to a manufacturing defect that may cause overheating and fire.
In Finland, many owners of the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ electric vehicles have received positive news as Mercedes-Benz's distributor Veho has announced a battery replacement initiative. This initiative arises from a manufacturing defect identified in the vehicle's batteries, which could lead to the overheating of battery cells and the potential risk of fire. As a result, the distributor has collaborated with the factory to issue a recall, replacing the affected batteries free of charge for the 76 vehicles registered in Finland.
The defect was discovered when the vehicle's battery was charged to its full capacity of 100%. Although Mercedes-Benz had updated the software for the battery systems of the 250+ models approximately a year ago, this update did not completely eliminate the risk associated with the batteries manufactured by Chinese company Farasis Energy. The existing 70.5 kWh battery is exclusively used in the EQA and EQB 250+ models produced between February 2021 and September 2023.
This battery replacement initiative not only addresses a safety concern for electric car users but also reinstates the warranty for the new batteries, which provides an added layer of customer assurance and trust in the brand. The company aims to ensure the safety and reliability of its electric vehicles, reflecting a commitment to customer safety and satisfaction.
