There’s a rumbling in Turku - And no one seems to know why

Residents in Turku are puzzled by a loud noise that occurred in the afternoon, with various theories circulating online about its source.

Residents of Turku and the surrounding areas have been perplexed by a loud rumbling sound heard on Tuesday afternoon. This mysterious noise has sparked discussions in local social media groups, particularly on platforms like Facebook and Jodel. Speculations have emerged, with some suggesting that the sound originates from a nearby construction site in Saramäki, where earthworks have recently begun.

However, the construction company managing the Saramäki site, Maanrakennus ja kuljetus Nylund, denies any significant blasting at the time the sound was reported. The company’s CEO, Harri Nylund, emphasized that no explosions that would cause a loud bang had taken place around six o'clock and that any sounds from the site typically do not emit notable noise. Confirming the timeline of events, Kiertomaa’s CEO, Antti Kuosmanen, later stated that the last blast on-site occurred at 4:44 PM but also noted that the noise produced is not excessively loud and mainly causes vibrations in the Saramäki area.

As of now, the Varsinais-Suomi rescue department has not received any reports of the noise, leaving residents still in the dark about the true nature of the disturbance. This situation not only raises questions about the source of the noise but also highlights the inquisitive nature of community interactions on social media concerning local events and phenomena.
