The curlers Rožkova and Lasmans lose to China at the Paralympic Games and will fight for bronze medals
Latvian curlers Rožkova and Lasmans lost to the Chinese team at the Paralympic Games and are now set to compete for bronze medals.
At the Paralympic Games, the Latvian curlers, Rožkova and Lasmans, faced a tough challenge against the Chinese duo of Vanai Mena and Jans Dzjiņcjao, who only suffered one previous loss to the United States in their last group match. The Latvians initially struggled in the tournament, losing three games including a significant 2:10 defeat to the same Chinese team, but managed to rally with four consecutive wins to keep their hopes alive for a medal.
In the match, the Latvians conceded two points in the first end but quickly turned the situation around thanks to a strong throw by Lasmans, successfully knocking two Chinese stones out of the house. A failure to perform this maneuver could have resulted in a much larger deficit right from the start. As the game progressed into the second end, they managed to recoup one point despite a challenging situation, but in the third end, Mena secured another two points for China, leaving the Latvians trailing at 1:4.
As the match continued, the fourth end presented a critical moment as the Latvians had a choice between a relatively easy and precise shot to score a point or taking a large risk to try to recover more. The tension was palpable as both teams sought to earn their place in the medal rounds, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament and the Latvians' determination to seize the opportunity for bronze medals despite their earlier setbacks.
